Bitching

New corpse; mine is panel 2. Did you see the seam underneath mine? Did you? Argh... I get so mad. There was this other corpse that caused extreme controversy.. there was a seam but the colors matched and it was individual.. it did not try to carry on the "theme" and some players had the audacity to demand it be removed! They said it was a "fresh prince," although a f.p. is when you stick a completely unrelated picture with no attempt at creativity. Idiots. There are players who have done many corpses, who still cannot perform without creating a goddamn seam... hello people, when you get your slice, DO NOT BLEND ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP! Really, that is so much worse, and makes the piece look awful. But unlike those players over at exquisite corpse, I will not comment that negatively on site! It is rude and mean. I will vent in the privacy of my blog!

And you have no idea what I am yammering on about, but today this post is about me.

So there!

So for my next corpse, I am not going to worry about carrying the top picture through. My last one completely lacked my personality and creativity. This next one is about the creation, about what I want to make. I am still a bit rebellious, I guess. I love to stir things up. There is no seam, but I am not going to cater to anybody. I will follow the rules of the game, and not that of a few nit picky players.

Don't get me wrong, corpsing is fun, it is just once in a while there are some self-righteous prigs who believe they need to put down the work and the personal websites of other players!

But only once in a while.

So, come corpse with us!

Wow. This is a pretty interesting concept. I'll have to go back and look; I really couldn't find a "panel."

I wonder who thought of this?

BTW - posting about you is fine. It is your blog, after all. :)

Each panel is 450 by 200, each piece has four panels. Each player (after the first) is given a 450 by 15 pixel slice to work with to be integrated into the one before it. Then the next person gets the bottom 15 pixels. Corpsing is old, actually. Well, it started in the 30's anyway!

'"Game of folded paper that consists in having a sentence or a drawing composed by several persons, each ignorant of the preceding collaboration...[eg]..."the exquisite/corpse/will drink/the new/wine"--excerpt from the 1939 Abridged Dictionary of Surrealism, as copied off the wall at the Art Institute of Chicago.'

You can read more about it here: http://anexquisitecorpse.net/what.php.
Each title is an example of a written "corpse". The one I recently worked on was titled: exalted/in my garden/surrealism is dead/at the drive in.

Hey there. I found your journal from a comment you made on a recently posted corpse that I participated on. So far I have only participated in corpses where I got to complete the first piece. This is mainly because I am new to all of this and I am scared to death to try a piece where I have to work off of someone else's work and make it look cohesive. Do you have any tips for me on blending, or can you point me in the direction of some good tutorials? I'm using Photoshop. I really think An Exquisite Corpse is an awesome website and would love to more fully participate. By the way I have really liked some of the pieces you have worked on. The most recent one had an awesome title!

Zetarose-
Open a new image, size 450 by 200 and paste the slice in as a new layer. Carefully place it at the top, making absolute sure that it is even. When you continue, make sure that you don't blend up to the top! Because it is going to butt up against the previous panel. I usually make sure the top 7 pixels are totally untouched! Some corpses are off center with terrible seams (some of these done by players who have done many and still suck). It is my opinion that there is no reason for offcenteredness or seams by seasoned players, except for sloppy work. If you are unsure, you can repaste the original slice back in as a new layer, position it, and turn the layer on and off. The top few pixels should be the same and it should be even. If it isn't, you can reintegrate it. I have had to do that a few times. And although many players go on about flow, don't lose yourself- go ahead and add your own creative genious.

If you still need help, let me know and I can help you. Have fun!
BTW, I haven't yet done a first panel and I would love to! I am about done with my next piece and will be uploading it soon to be passed on.

Oh, and make sure that where start at the top is blended seamlessly into the new picture. If you start lower at say, 7 pixels and don't smooth or smudge it a bit, it will still have a nasty seam. The newest posted today has both problems of what I was bitching about- panel 2 is offcenter and has a seam at the 15 pixel line! However, while avoidable, accidents happen, and this player has had perfect previous panels. Oh well...
