Well...

Does this mean no more staying up late reading my vampire books?

"Dear Dawn,

Here is your AstroSlam for Friday, March 30:

You're really beginning to feel the exhaustion that comes from hanging out with vampires। If you can't see your friends in the mirror, then you shouldn't be nightclubbing with them. Travel with a silver stake! "

What did we do on our vaca?

We went to Piney Shores Resort in Conroe- a time share thingy bobber- and the kids swam, and I swam, but the indoor pool was closed for repairs, so this was in the outside pool. It was coolish. but not too bad. The weather here is beautiful! I took them swimming again today after school, and I got to read!!! C stayed home because he got home from work late that day.

I learned that Tessa can manage to hog a king size bed and that she likes to snuggle. I learned that Bruce and Brandy don't like sleeping places other than home, and that even in a beautiful lodge, with a kitchen, living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, one a Jacuzzi, and 3 TVS, that I still end up sleeping either on the floor or on the couch with babies! I learned that kids who don't want to go to school will take care of a baby for 3 hours and let Mom sleep in... and that little girls are not above resorting to tears and denial when confronted.

I sorta stayed up almost all night and not totally because of the littlest babies. They did keep me up late, but after they passed out, that Midol kicked in and I read my witch/vampire novel until almost morning. (Dead witches tell no tales) Then I took a 5 hour nap. It was wonderful!!!!

And I admit that it was fun bringing them to school, and laying on the guilt just a bit, when I knew it was my fault entirely. A mom has to have some fun once in a while, no?

"The Truth About Writing"

On his blog, Fred Charles wrote, "I’ve decided to chronicle the creation of my next novel." How awesome is that? I am obsessed with learning the process of anything, so you can see I am intrigued. I love to read almost more than I love breathing.

On a previous post, he has already teased his readers with samples of his opening paragraph. He posts each rewrite, and every new attempt gets better and more appealing. I want more, more, more! It is interesting to see how he conveys the same ideas in the last rewrite, using a much more interesting technique he refers to as, "show, don't tell." I had trouble with this concept in my attempts at writing shorts stories. I admit I did not get very far at all. My poetry writing stopped for much the same reason. My ideas and my words did not coincide. Perhaps Fred and the knowledge he is imparting will help this SAHM to overcome her own writing disabilities?

Why don't you go take a look at his revamped blog? I would like to know what you have to say!

Dental Disease Can Be Prevented and Cured!

"Once the enamel is pierced—by anything, but usually by a cavity—there is an "open sesame" for germs to get into a part of the body that has no defense against infection.... You could get syphilis through a cavity faster than through ordinary sex. And that's a fact!"

"Are you ready for this: Disease-free teeth which have been damaged by former disease can heal themselves... Oral health, logically and reasonably, has many parallels with physical health. Broken bones knit; damaged hearts heal, torn muscles or cut skin mends...the body's ability to heal is the norm, not the exception. Why should the mouth be different?—It isn't."

Where am I going with this stuff? I am reading some e-books by Dr. Nara written in the 70s and 80s about how dentists repair symptoms and not disease. They are not ALLOWED to try to treat disease, and medical doctors are not allowed near the mouth- so whose job is it? It is up to us to take our oral health into our own hands. I am going to start with my own toothpaste- more of a tooth powder. OTC toothpastes have carcinogens in them, and don't really do anything beneficial to our teeth and GUMS. I am going to dip my soft toothbrush into hydrogen peroxide and then into baking soda mixed with peppermint, myrrh and tea tree essential oils. These oils will help kill the bacteria in the mouth that causes dental disease. I also bought an irrigator to clean under the gums and in the deep spaces between my teeth. Ever hear of a waterpik? That is an irrigator. Flossing is important too. The way that we brush and floss is also more important than what we floss with.

Nutrition is vital to healthy oral care, esp calcium and vitamin d. 15 minutes of sun per day, without sunscreen, vitamin supplements, and lots of research is going to help me out here. I am not going to have my cavities filled- at least not right away. I am going to call the office and have them schedule me for a teeth cleaning that day instead. Once the mouth is cleaned, I can continue to rid my mouth of bacteria. The cavities are supposed to be able to heal themselves and I did not know that! If this works, it will save me over $3000 in dental work.

I have a list from my dental exam and it will cost me three grand to have my teeth "fixed"! I am supposed to pay them out the ass to torture me? I don't think so!

"Money by the Mouthful"

By ROBERT O. NARA, D.D.S.

"We are told, or assume, that cavities are caused by sugar. That's a lie. Cavities are caused by disease, and the disease is caused by germs. You can avoid sugar all you wish but you will not escape dental disease because of your abstinence."

"It is, today, a violation of dental professional ethics—and of most state laws—to advertise to the public that a dentist is interested in preventing disease and its problems. Dentists can advertise various specialties (when recognized by the association), but these all deal with repair of damages. The association that makes and enforces the rules has adamantly refused to sanction preventive (medical) dentistry as a specialty, even though medical doctors have long considered prevention one of the more ideal forms of health care and treatment."
More to come about this later...

And I am feeling better after a return visit to the dentist. I had dry socket. Now I don't!

March 22, 2007

I think that you ought to know...

...that I am in excruciating pain. I made a deal with the devil dentist, to have the rear molar removed, rather than canaled and crowned. I got credit for what I already paid for, and had an exam done. I will instead have the rest of my teeth repaired, so I never have to go through this agony again.

But I am in PAIN! I was not given anything for the pain after the extraction, and I am hopped up on OTC pain killers and I am in AGONY! I have a headache, and I think the pain in my lower jaw is aggravating the nerves in my upper teeth. I feel extreme soreness as well as toothache pain, and I have a splitting headache. The baby is teething and screaming and Chantz is in Glendive.

The icing is that I figured out that my antidepressants DO NOT work and that I have been depressed for at least 3 weeks.

I need to be saved from myself.

Austin's Essay

We helped Austin write this essay for the LEAP class we had to take.

My goal is to be a computer programmer and video game designer. To accomplish my goal, I need to do many things. One thing I need to do is become a great video game player! I need to play a variety of video games from all the different game types, like strategy, sports, building, shooter, and role playing games. I will also need to keep a game journal that describes what games I have played and what I like about them, what type of buildings and characters there are. I would also keep track of the things I don't like about the games' graphics, story, and the characters development.
I need to do good in school. I need to do my school work in class when my teacher tells me to. I need to work independently. Without arguing or whining about my work. I need to get good grades in math, reading, writing and history, so I can go to a good college for at least four years, so I can get a really good degree in computer programming and game design. To get good grades in reading I need to practice reading at home and maybe get a tutor. To get good grades in writing I need to pay attention in class and take extra writing classes, and writing in a journal at home about my games I am playing. I need to catch up in my math classes so I can learn harder math. I will pay attention in history class, and I will continue to watch the History, Learning and Discovery channels. My favorite show on the History channel is Modern Marvels, because it has history and science making it more interesting.
I need to be good in school and I need to listen to my teacher to improve my listening skills. One way I can do that is by following directions and saying yes sir or yes ma'am. I need to read instructions to video game tutorials to learn how to play games. In school I need to learn vocal skills so I can be a good talker. I also need to learn another language like Spanish to go to college. I need to become a great dirt bike rider because it is a sport and I need to learn a sport to become a game designer. I want to take guitar lessons for my musical instrument I need to learn.
I want to build model cities and military complexes for the games I make. I can make movies about them too. I will practice making maps like I do in my video games I play. My dad can help me build the models and my dad can help me create games. Everything that I draw, build or create I need to keep pictures of in my portfolio. A portfolio is a book of all the stuff I draw or make, like cities. I will use this book to help me get a job when I am done with school so I can make lots of money.

"Welcome to Cancerland"

I just found this article about breast cancer over at Twistys Blog. It is not your usual sappy article and I suggest that you all read it in it's entirety. The gist- that breast cancer is being infantized, and that we are ignoring the bigger issue- environmental causes of breast cancer- the leading cause of breast cancer. Didn't know that did you? Because it is shoved under the carpet. This is an interesting topic. If anyone else is interested in researching possible carcinogens and environmental causes of breast cancer, let me know! Let's see what we can do to protect ourselves. I want to know what foods (pesticides) and products to avoid. I want to find out which chemicals could be the cause so I can boycott them. Cancer isn't something people should accept. It is something that should be avoided.

My mother in law has a theory that lung cancer is also caused by environmental pollutions. She thinks cigarettes are taking the blame for something that is a being ignored- pollution. She is insistent that cancer caused by secondhand smoke could be from the environment instead. She goes one step further to think it is a conspiracy, a cover up. At first I thought she was a little nutty, but I didn't argue with her because, hell, she could be right. After reading this article, I am more apt to believe my mother in law. She just might be on to something. She does believe that cigarettes can cause cancer. She and I just both believe that the damage done to the environment is being ignored and is also to blame!

By the way, you should also read what Twisty has to say over there at I blame the Patriarchy.

Here is an excerpt of the article:
"What sustained me through the “treatments” is a purifying rage, a resolve, framed in the sleepless nights of chemotherapy, to see the last polluter, along with, say, the last smug health insurance operative, strangled with the last pink ribbon. "

Blue October

I just bought the CD, Foiled by Blue October and I love it!!!! I love X amount of words , Congratulations and Pulled a wire through my cheek, as well as Hate Me and Into the Ocean. These guys are amazing!

"A plate of quite peculiar on a dish of my own
A tablespoon of feather, tickle me to the bone
Give me recipes for happy with the chemicals gone
Drinking freedom from a bottle to the tune of belong"
-X Amount of Words

Isn't that amazing? Justin Furstenfeld is an amazing writer!!! Here are some more examples:

"Ever carried the weight of another?
For how long?
I walk as far as they need to recover
For how long?"
-Overweight

"So rest assured I have the key to every opening
To every wishing well that's deep enough to dream
I wanna show you just how fascinating kissing is
When earth collides with all the space between, yeah"
-Sound Of Pulling Heaven Down

If you are familiar with Hate me, then you know that Justin Furstenfeld is an ex addict/alcoholic. Like me he has suffered from depression. That song is about his mother, and the cd version has a tape recording of his mom leaving a message on his machine. How very sad. I hear that song and I think, "That is what a mom is supposed to be!!! I would do that for my children, too!"

"In my sick way I want to thank you
For holding my head up late at night
While I was busy waging wars on myself
You were trying to stop the fight
You never doubted my warped opinions
On things like suicide or hate
You made me compliment myself
When it was way too hard to take
So I'll drive so fucking far away
That I never cross your mind
And do whatever it takes in your heart
To leave me behind
Hate me today
Hate me tomorrow
Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you
Hate me in ways
Yeah, ways hard to swallow
Hate me so you can finally see what's good for you"
-Hate Me

One last word from me, these guys are originally from Houston. Cool!

"Well, alive, anyway!"

I'm still here, barely. I had a partial root canal on Monday and have it finished in two weeks. This sucks. You have no idea how pricey this procedure is. But the pain!!! My god, the pain was terrible. I mean the toothache, not the procedure. Root canals don't hurt. Then this morning I forgot to cancel the appt I made at some other dentist who couldn't get me in right away.

It's spring break. I guess the Dentists here don't work on spring break.

Yup, the kids are home this week!!! All week. And our plans are to sit around playing games on the PCs. Except for the Sims. It isn't working, which really makes me mad because I built a kick ass house and it wouldn't let me save it!!! I did get a screen shot of it though!

My in laws got another horse. The poor thing looked like they were starving it. I don't know what it is about people here in Texas, but the livestock look terribly thin and malnourished. It makes me sick. Their neighbors only feed their horses a small amount of hay and feed a day, carefully measured and weighed! Hell, I feed Dolly and Mayday close to a bail a day!!! He is a beautiful 3 year old brownish red Thoroughbred (Dolly is a quarter horse). She happened to be in heat the day Mayday showed up. Wow, that was almost horse porn. He is a young one though and didn't know what he was doing, so whether or not anything came of it we aren't sure. Dolly sure is a bitch though. She is mean and domineering. Feeding them is a pain because she hordes the food and knocks him out of the way. I have my own tricks though!!! No pictures as of yet. Maybe I will remember my camera tomorrow.

Here is one of Tessa, Hailey and Bruce taken in our cabin at the resort.

And a chocolate covered baby!

Sometimes it's not a mom thing...

...and sometimes it is. But how to tell when it is a wife thing??

Ever eat fishsticks that taste like ass?

Ever been so sick that you vomited at the same time it came out the other end?

How do you deal with people who drive you freaking crazy? When they are family members and cannot be disposed of in garbage sacks, I mean. :p

That's about all. I'm pooped (he he).

Answer the questions in the comments for me ok? This IS NOT a meme. I just like lists.

Everything in Between and Then Some

I am waiting for one picture to load, so I might as well type something for you. The new computer is here, sitting on my new desk. The new couch and bookcases look lovely in my living room and I finally like this house. Tessa and Austin both got new beds. Austins is a loft bed with a desk under it, metal style. Tessa's is a white daybed with a trundle. The bottom bed also has three large drawers in it. She has a room fit for a princess.

Austin got new clothes from my grandmother when she visited last week. He is finally "cool" and is being left alone by his nemesis. At court he was assigned to go to 2 LEAP classes with me. We have to write 2 essays for the 19 about Austin's goals and how he will achieve them and how I will help him do that. Ironically, the first ticket hi got was for refusing to do a writing assignment about his life's goals. He says he doesn't have any. Doh! What do you want to be when you grow up is a goal! He is ambitious. he wants to program computer games and he wants to go to college in Japan to learn it. Um, that is a big major goal that he would need to start working on now in order to accomplish. This is going to be fun.

On the 28th, Brandy's bottom two teeth came in! How sweet is that? She has been sitting up for a while now, but just yesterday she sat up by herself with out first climbing up on something. She pulls herself up onto Bruce's chairs and tries to get in them. She tried to climb onto his bed and it was just adorable!

Bruce had a rough night; he was vomiting all night and wouldn't drink anything. Then he had some nasty diapers. Poor guy is sleeping again. This morning when he woke up, bright and cheerful, he said uh oh! and took daddy to the bathroom to show he remembered. He is also a fine mimic and repeats many things he hears. He likes to say chicken soup, because he heard Austin singing the chicken noodle soup song.

Grandma and Grandpa Rothstein were here on the 3rd and 4th to visit. They flew in from Florida and are traveling to California by car. They are taking a 5 week road trip to see the sights! It sounds very exciting. We went out to eat at the cheesecake factory and the kids were so well behaved! My grandfather was impressed with how smart Austin is. Like us, he believes that Austin isn't being challenged enough at school. This is partly because he is reading challenged and it makes it very hard to see where he is at.

My friend Rebecca "Bekke" from high school found me this last week and I am so excited. We were inseparable back in the day. She is very smart and got excellent grades in high school. Not me, though. I could have cared less. She went to school and I had the babies and got married and we lost touch. She lives in Florida now and has family in Austin, TX! How cool is that? She has a baby now, too, named Sarah and she is 18 months old. Since I have stinky dial up I haven't yet managed to view her photos yet. But I will!

Speaking of images, mine still has not been uploaded yet. Durn it all anyway. I guess it will have to wait until next time.

Ciao!
