My mother in law has a theory that lung cancer is also caused by environmental pollutions. She thinks cigarettes are taking the blame for something that is a being ignored- pollution. She is insistent that cancer caused by secondhand smoke could be from the environment instead. She goes one step further to think it is a conspiracy, a cover up. At first I thought she was a little nutty, but I didn't argue with her because, hell, she could be right. After reading this article, I am more apt to believe my mother in law. She just might be on to something. She does believe that cigarettes can cause cancer. She and I just both believe that the damage done to the environment is being ignored and is also to blame!
By the way, you should also read what Twisty has to say over there at I blame the Patriarchy.
Here is an excerpt of the article:
"What sustained me through the “treatments” is a purifying rage, a resolve, framed in the sleepless nights of chemotherapy, to see the last polluter, along with, say, the last smug health insurance operative, strangled with the last pink ribbon. "

so true...but think of all the scientists who would be out of work if we found out what caused cancers? lots and lots of money from grants to research cancer, and where money is envolved, you know what I mean
I'll have to read the whole thing later when I have more time. But I want to point out that we shouldn't forget all the nuclear testing that's been done all over the world for the past 50-60 years. We (my generation) are the first to actually have Strontium 90 in our bone marrow.
As to smoking, I agree that environmental pollutants are to blame along with cigarettes, but that being the case, why keep smoking? That's like putting your mouth around the car exhaust pipe and inhaling. Either way, you're mainlining the stuff.
:)I quit 10 years ago. Hardest thing I ever did.
Peace.
Candace- thankfully I never started! So, what is strontium 90? I'll google it!
