Then I called Ma to see what she thought of the name Logan. She liked it and I told her why I chose it. The reason I called her, though, is because one of her dogs is named Hogan. I thought that was pretty cool. Ma's other dog is named Murdock. Now our first cat, which we had as a family, is Salem, and we had to give him to Ma a few years ago when we moved to Wyoming; our new place did not allow pets. He is furry and orange and a tabby and adorable. Very picky and really likes my mother. After about 6 months, we decided Ma should keep him.
I have wanted another cat for a while, but I knew I should not go out and get one; he would come to me- again. We did not adopt Salem, he adopted us. He had been abandoned at the trailer park we moved into and would come around and do what cats do best. Love. He loved on us to death, until one day my husband, the man who doesn't like cats, stopped at the store and bought kitty litter stuff, food, and shampoo. Yep, first thing he did was let him in (poor guy had gotten booted off our porch so many times that he didn't trust us at first. Then he came in, C gave him a bath, fed him, and I swear that Salem did nothing but sleep for an entire week. And as with all cats, once he was sure his place was firmly in our home, he allowed us to love him, and feed him, and even sleep with him! Tessa could roll over on him in her sleep and he wouldn't even move, as long as he could still see out that window. His top priority was not to show us butt loads of affection anymore, but to sleep and scratch the new wall paper. The front claws came off! We didn't need to get him fixed, that was already taken care of, but we got him his shots and a color and a tag, and loved him oodles. Then we had to move. It took him a while to get used to Ma's house; she has two other cats and two dogs. But he has taken to her and her to him, and they are both very happy about the whole thing.
I went to the Humane Society in Conroe a while back to see about finding a home for the puppy, Mackensie. They wouldn't take him, for various reasons, but they did have numerous cats for adoption. About 300 cats! I looked and looked, and while a few were cute and playful, none of them grabbed my heart and slung it over their shoulders. And at $110, it was a very good thing indeed!!! Then on Chantz's 29th birthday (7/21) I went to Wal-Mart with Tessa and Alice, and as we were leaving there was a woman sitting outside on a bench with a small pet carrier with 2 black kitties inside. It was very hot out and I was concerned because they had no water and were panting! It was ok, however, they had just arrived and another woman arrived with a bowl and some water. I got down on the ground and peered in, and there was this cute little kitty in the back, panting, with this adorable little tongue hanging out. I held the cat in front first, but he tried to get away, and I didn't like him much and back he went to the lady. I asked to see the little guy in the back, and instantly fell in love. He just sat there, in my arms, curled up so daintily, that I just had to have him. Alice wouldn't tell me if I should or not, so I called Chantz on the lady's cell phone. He hemmed, hawed, talked to his mom, and finally said yes! He likes the kitty too. Hell, he likes the kitty better than Rocksy. (But that is a whole different story.)
Up for grabs is a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble. All you have to do is be the first one to answer all the following questions correctly while following a few simple rules. DO NOT GOOGLE, or use any other search engine to find the answer; that is cheating. Either you know it or you don't. If you are my mother, you can't play.
- I asked C who he thought of when I said "Logan" and he got it right immediately. Who were we talking about?
- My mother named her dogs Hogan and Murdock. For whom did she name these dogs? (this is a two part question).
- Our old cat's name was Salem. Who did Tessa name him after?

I have no idea about the answers to the quiz, but...$110 to adopt a CAT from the humane society? I realize they have to charge to cover expenses, and also to make sure it's not going to someone who will use the cat as pit bull fight training or something, but $110???
And I've never heard of a humane society not taking a dog (which is a good thing they didn't take her in the long run). Things sure have changed when I used to go to the humane society!
We tried to adopt a kitten from the humane society back in '91, and we had to go through a screening application. Yes, we had 2 other (fixed) cats,, yes we had a (pug) dog, but we were homeowners with jobs and they NEVER called us back. Whatever! So we got Persephone at a pet store. If they don't want people using pet stores, why do they make such a rigorous screening process? I have no idea what they were looking for in a "proper" candidate.
Ann- yes, it is crazy!! $60 for the cat and $50 to have it spyed or nuetered. The pet HAS to be fixed or no adoption. No wonder they have 300! Last month they only adopted out 20! The HS wouldn't take her cuz we are from willis, not conroe. They wouldn't take Logan and his brother because the owner, with a conroe address, lived in the country! Just bizzare. Montgomery county puts down way too many animals a month here. We have a pet problem, I guess!
I'm stumped. I was thinking about Chris Noth on Law & Order for Logan and maybe Hogan's Heroes but after that I don't know.
We have a winner! Jayne from http://www.jaynedarcy.us/ answered all four questions correctly. I emailed her to tell her which one she got wrong, and then she got it right. Everyone stop by her place and congratulate her.
Later!
Thanks for playing granny.
Dang. I'm always too late.
o susie, go stuff it, lol!
poor fred!
Hey, I'm Dawn's mom. Up Hogan is for Hogan's Heroes and Murdock is for crazy Murdock for the A-team. Hogan is my protector and Murdock is crazy and also my protector.
I have Salem now and Dawn probably told me who he was named after, I assumed the Salem witch hunts. I don't remember what she said about logan because I'm spaced out sometimes in my own little world.
