Thanks to Fyregoddess...

...to pointing this outrage to me. Where in the world is this country going to? What kind of shit is this?

Florida's Fear of History: New Law Undermines Critical Thinking

They actually passed a law determining how american history is to be taught. It is not to be interpreted, it is just as it is told. Why would they feel the need to do this? Why all this control over the minds of our youth? I thought we feared tyrany. Why do we keep feeding it?

Fyregoddess asked to pass this on, so I am asking you to do the same. GO TELL SOMEBODY!

I know I am not American but I do see from the outside. I think Americans already tell history the way they want to. Many views have been turned around so that Americans have come out the hero or victom. They add on top of everything that they are number one. I think that is because I am just north of New York "the state of we are number one" to begin with as mid westener once told me ::laughs::

Now that they make it a law to do so makes my heart fill with a little more pitty. It is bad enough history is already (any where in the world) what the popular and the rich want it to be.

I'm teaching history again for the first time in 8 years, and I've been thinking about presenting information in a way that allows students to form their own judgments. It's hard, but it's something we have to strive to do. Some general things I remember from studying history in college:

Each generation reinterprets history.
Facts DON'T speak for themselves. (Is that Twain?)
The "victors" write history.

Excellent article, and thank you for linking. I need to add a link at OOTB.

As I told you in the email, I'll just ignore it.

I wrote about this here

The winners write the history books of course but dedicated teachers have always found a way to present both sides to get at the truth.

That scares the Bush baby brother and his cronies in Florida to death of course.

The truth? Perish the thought.
